Alexander's Bio

Alexander was born into a Christian family in Belarus; he is a third generation Baptist. His family was greatly persecuted for their faith during his childhood. He himself was forbidden to talk openly about his faith, and suffered lowered grades, negative evaluations in school, etc. due to his faith.

As a high school student Alexander was approached by the KGB on three separate occasions, and promised quick advancement, career opportunities, and other rewards if he would be willing to serve as a KGB spy within the Baptist church. After his third refusal, they assured him that because of his unwillingness to cooperate, his life would be ruined.

"But Timothy, having just come to us from you and announcing the good news to us of your faith and love and that you have kind remembrance of us always and long to see us, just we also you. Because of this we were comforted because of you, brothers, in all our necessity and affliction, through your faith; Because now we live if you stand firm in the Lord. For what thanks can be return to God concerning you for all the joy with which we rejoice because of you before our God." 1 Thessalonians 3: 6-9

We welcome you dear friends with these words. A lot of time has passed since the last time I wrote to you. I ask you to forgive me magnanimously. My service before God has not interrupted, and the church carried out the mission. For the past period of time, we had a service with the neighbor church in Oglaine. Usually we go to other church with the youth, but this time went all the people who wanted to go there, and there were 20 people who wanted to go there. This service was a good encouragement for church in Oglaine, and a pleasure for us.

We have also visited church in Yelgava where we had a joint service of four churches. The service was devoted to Christmas. Also it was directed on informing people about the message about Savior Jesus Christ who was born in the world.

The youth from Liepaja came to visit us. The purpose of this meeting and fellowship was an opportunity to share experience in the field of work with children and teenagers, and also work of club " AWANNA ". Due to this club, the church of the city of Liepaja has good contact to many teenagers, combining sports with studying the Bible. In the result many teenagers remain in church, finding new friends for them.

We also have planned a new meeting for summer which we wish to carry out at our place.

Wonderful Christmas evening for children of our village was carried out by the help of our youth: Dzirnieki, Stalgine. About 120 teenagers were present. There were the Christmas history, skits, quizzes, verses, and poems, songs of children of Sunday school and, certainly, gifts which are good stimulus for children to come on this kind of meetings.

These are the basic events that we had during the past months. We plan to carry out a holiday of Sunday school and we already work upon it. And we also plan to have two meetings with children of public school of our village.

I was so very glad to meet our brothers: Tim, Sam, and also Vitaly. They have arrived in time. That was not the best time in my life. Since September I practically suffered from a pain in my back. And in January I broke down completely. I spent three weeks at home, being on treatment. The period of my illness is not paid. It is still necessary to live on something. The treatment is expensive. I feel so bad. But! As I knew it before and it was proved again, God controls everything. Glory to God - God is alive, and He knows the needs of children. I did not expect that besides a pleasant meeting I shall receive something more. For me and my family it was pleasant to communicate to those who remembers and prays for us and our church. But when God gives, He gives enough. So we were blessed through you. Your help has served as a great encouragement for the church and the family. Our prayers have been heard, and we have received answers to them. Glory to God and thank you. May God bless you!
